Communication in the Business World

Objective:

As students with a high level of English competency, you may very well in the future be selected by your colleagues to be THE specialist for international communication at your place of work, whether that be in a foreign location or Germany.  In your fifth and final semester of English we want to prepare you for these different roles within the business field by exploring their associated vocabularies, and the types verbal communication which accompany the specialized areas.  We will also be studying the various registers (language style) which are used in the spoken contexts of these fields.

Content:

During the semester we will be looing at various aspects of communication in the business world. We will have meetings and negotiaitons in which we will role play business situations. In addition, we will be looking at those various areas in the current news, in which you will be expected to find articles of interest in those fields.  You will present and lead a class discussion about your chosen topic.
