Old Mining (Altbergbau)
In the summer semester 2026, the course takes place weekly on Thursdays from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. in the lecture hall HHB-1035, the first time on April 9.
Please note: The first 9 weeks, we will have lectures (every week); after this, we will have exercises. Exercises are only part of the module "Environmental Engineering Geology", and not of the module "Environmental Geotechnics" (students of the programs AMRD and MORE do not take part in the exercises).

Learning objectives:
Students become familiar with topics, their relevance and consequences of old mining. They understand the respective processes and can discuss and plan mitigation measures.
They can scientifically present topics in the area of old mining (exercise).
Content: legal framework; exploration methods; methods of assessment, remediation and securing; regional topics in Saxony (lignite open pits, uranium mining); water management of flooded underground mines; international case studies (exercise).
The course language is English.
