Modern industrial production is characterized by the intensive use of information and communication technology, based on intelligent and digitally cross-linked systems. This lecture provides basic knowledge about a digitalized, cross-linked production and relevant application areas. Starting with the machine (basics about NC/CNC and CAD/CNC process chain, setup of a machine tools, control systems, MDE/DNC systems), going to use of virtual and augmented reality for development and production, ending with models and methods of the digital factory – students learn the main basics of digital production. In addition it will be presented how those basics can be applied for Industry 4.0.
