Surface and Interface Engineering
Contents:
The module includes the surface and coating technology as well as the design of interfaces in hybrid compounds. The focus is on understanding process-structure-property relationships. Knowledge of all essential processes for the production of metallic, inorganic non-metallic and organic coatings or surface structures is imparted. Based on the complex profile of requirements for surfaces and interfaces due to mechanical, tribological, corrosive and thermal stress, strategies for their needs-based design are dealt with.
Qualification goals:
The students know the chemical-physical-technological basics of the essential processes of surface and coating technology including important pre- and post-treatment processes as well as the tasks and mechanisms of action of interfaces. They recognize and understand the basic relationships between the process characteristics and the resulting structures and properties of the coatings. They are able to select coating systems based on the application and to substantiate their selection.
