Many Body Theory
The students are introduced to the fundamentals of modern condensed matter theory corresponding to the knowledge a student should have on advanced quantum mechanics and electrodynamics. Further, the concepts from this course represent the physical and mathematical basis for subsequent modules like Density Functional Theory, Molecular Modelling or Quantum Chemistry.
Contents: Lecture:
1. Statistical physics: fundamentals of probability calculus and elements of
phenomenological thermodynamics
2. Many body quantum mechanics: Fock space, elements of second quantization, fundamental Hamiltonian of electrons and nuclei, computational methods to deal with many electron problem
3. Response theory: general aspects, Kubo formalism, electrodynamics in media
4. Selected topics of modern condensed matter physics
Seminar:
Biweekly meeting where the seminar talks will be given. The subject of the talk is chosen by the student from a predefined list. The topics will be related to the concepts introduced in the lecture.
