Seminar in Mathematical Biology

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has dramatic consequences at a global scale. Despite the application of a multitude of anti-corona measures and vaccination programs, several countries are facing a third or even fourth wave of infections. From the very beginning of the pandemic, mathematical models have played an important role in guiding political decisions. Mathematical models can yield insights into the dynamics of infection spread and elimination strategies. In the seminar we will critically discuss the possibilities and limits of mathematical models. The main focus of the seminar is the introduction of key models by means of oral presentations and discussions. The seminar program will be finalized at the kickoff meeting.

The seminar is intended for undergraduate/graduate students and researchers in mathematics, physics, biology, medicine, and computer science who are interested in this highly interdisciplinary research area.
