Summary

The purpose of obtaining knowledge and a thorough understanding of the mechanical properties and structural strength of materials.

The task is to reveal the relationship between the structure and mechanical properties of materials. To study macro- and microfractographic methods of researching the brittle destruction of materials. Master the methods of determining the main strength and plastic characteristics in tension, compression, torsion, bending, as well as hardness according to the methods of Brinell, Vickers, Rockwell, etc. Get in-depth knowledge of heat resistance, fatigue, wear resistance.

As a result of studying, the student should know:

- main mechanical properties of materials;

- relationship between load and deformation;

- the physical content of elasticity and plasticity;

- impact toughness of materials;

- the influence of alloying elements on the mechanical properties of strength and yield strength, relative elongation and contraction, work of destruction and hardness.

 

The course of lectures will consist of the following topics:

  1. Static methods of studying mechanical properties.
  2. Elasticity and plasticity of materials.
  3. Phenomenon of superplasticity.
  4. Additional static methods of studying mechanical properties.
  5. Dynamic tests of mechanical properties of materials.
  6. Measurement of hardness.
  7. The effect of changing the chemical composition on the mechanical properties of materials.
  8. Special mechanical properties.

Heat resistance, wear resistance, fatigue. The Bauschinger effect.

  1. Structural strength.
  2. Relationship between load and deformation.
  3. Models of the nanocrystalline structure of materials.
  4. Influence of alloying elements: carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, aluminum, niobium, vanadium, titanium, molybdenum on the work of destruction and hardness.
