Reading WS2024/25

Even though every student will have learned how to read, not everyone knows how to read effectively. In this course, students will learn to improve their (critical) reading skills and critical thinking skills, expand their vocabulary and general knowledge in English Studies, and improve their academic literacy. Using a variety of text types, we will address reading skills such as preview reading, skimming and scanning, reading for main ideas, reading for details, and reading for inference. Strategies for dealing with unknown vocabulary will also play a role, as well as how to read tables and charts, and how to use information gained from reading, such as summarising, paraphrasing, synthesising, evaluating, and criticising text.
