Students will grasp the fundamental principles of cutting theory, including how different physical parameters influence machining, as well as the relationship between tool materials, geometry, and chip formation.

Students become aware that of particular relevance in the effective selection of cutting tools and parameters directly impacts productivity and cost-efficiency in machining, prompting the need for a systematic approach to solving real-world engineering challenges.

 LEARNING OUTCOMES / COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge

1) Mastering a systematic approach to the process of studying the methods of machining, a set of movements for carrying out the cutting process.
2) Cutting process dynamics and thermal phenomena during machining.
3) Features of various types of machining.
Skills
1) Mastering the methodological apparatus of “Cutting theory” in techniques of measurement of tool wear, cutting temperature and cutting force.
2) To apply modern methods and technical means when solving practical problems of evaluation of cutting tools and cutting parameters.
3) Definition of basic parameters of the chip formation process, wear mechanisms and built-up formation during machining.
