Surfaces, Thin Films and Interfaces (WS 2024/25)
Parts of this course:
Important information:
Due to new study regulations for the courses Advanced Functional Materials (2024) and Micro and Nano Systems (2023), some aspects of the course (e.g. exam type, exam prerequisites) will differ depending on the version that you're enrolled in.
In principle, students who are enrolled in the old version of the study regulations can opt to switch to the new version. Informations on this process will be provided by the respective study commissions.
This course consists of three parts: Lecture, Exercise/Tutorium and Seminar. All classes will be held in person only. You can find more information, lecture slides and study materials in the respective tabs on the left. Attendance and participation in the Seminar is mandatory only for students of Advanced Functional Materials (PO 2015) or Advanced Manufacturing, and most Ph.D. students.
Lecture: Surfaces, Thin films and Interfaces
The lecture is the "heart" of the course. Occassionally, we will use the interactive Audience Response System Particify during the lectures, which can be accessed via smartphone or laptop. Lecture slides will be available for download prior to the lectures - please note that they are not intended to replace attendance or self-study.
Wednesday, 13:45 - 15:15
Room: C10.013
Lecturer: Dr. Fabian Göhler
Courses: M_AdPF3, M_AM__1, M_AM__3, M_MN1_3, M_MN2_3, M_Ph__1, M_Ph__3
Combined Exercise & Tutorium: Surfaces, Thin films and Interfaces
The former bi-weekly tutorium has been replaced by a weekly exercise. In the exercise, we will discuss the topics of the lecture in more detail using specific examples, calculations, or paper discussions. It is also a perfect opportunity for you to ask questions. Active participation is encouraged - worksheets will be uploaded well in advance. More information will be provided in the first lecture of the year.

Lecturer: Dr. Fabian Göhler
Courses: M_AdPF3, M_AM__1, M_AM__3, M_MN1_3, M_MN2_3, M_Ph__1, M_Ph__3
The combined exercise and tutorium will start October 22nd.
Seminar: Advanced Surfaces, Thin Films and Interfaces
In the seminar, students will give presentations on topics beyond the scope of the lecture. Achieving a passing grade in the seminar is required in order to take the oral examination at the end of the semester. Participation is mandatory only for Students of Advanced Functional Materials (PO 2018 or older), Advanced Manufacturing, and PhD students.
Monday, 15:30 - 17:00
Room: C60.031
Lecturer: Dr. Philip Schädlich
Courses: M_AdPF3, M_AM__1, M_AM__3
The seminar will start on October 14th. The first seminar will be used to explain the procedure and some important aspects of scientific talks. Presentations by students will start October 21st.
