Analytical Micromagnetism

TU Dresden | Sommersemester 2025 Analytical Micromagnetism

Using the language of classical field theory based on the Landau-Lifshitz equation, we will learn how to describe magnetization dynamics in ferro- and antiferromagnets. Particular attention will be paid to the study of topological magnetic solitons. Students who have completed the course will be able to calculate the spectra of spin waves, the structure of domain walls, skyrmions, merons, and their dynamics under the action of a spin-polarized current or an applied magnetic field.

It is desirable that students enrolled in the course know the basics of the calculus of variations, as well as the basics of the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms.

Language: English

Time: Thursdays, 14:50 – 16:20 hrs (one lecture per week in the period 10/04 – 19/07/25).

Place: Seminar room B3E.26 (IFW Dresden, Helmholtzstr. 20).
