Sports around the English world by Chiara Petschke
Welcome to the Unite 'Sports around the English world'.
Sport is everywhere right now: the Winter Olympics, the current World Cup, the upcoming Tour de France, and so many more. Some people might say sport is the glue that brings a community together; others use sport as a means to forget about the stress of their everyday life, and for others, sport is a tool to feel great about themselves and foster friendships. Whatever sport means to you, we will explore a little bit more about the culture surrounding Sport in the English-speaking parts of the world.
Cricket, cheerleading, baseball and football are just a few examples of sports that play a big role in the UK and USA, so in this unit, you will learn more about the current World Championship 2026, explore the famous sports of the UK and the USA, and create a presentation for our school's sports day.
The Unit is divided into 6 lessons. You will find the lesson task at the top of the module, and the corresponding tasks, texts, or links below and further support in the form of word banks or tips attached to them.
After you have finished the module, you will be able to
- differentiate and organise aspects of sports culture in the UK and the USA with the aid of short video clips
- remember the rules of a UK/ USA specific sport of their choosing and can create a summary of them in written form
- orally explain what sports culture is like in Germany
