Player Perceptions and Experiences in Online Games

Welcome and thank you for your interest in this study.

This survey examines players’ experiences and perceptions of communication in online games.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. The survey takes approximately 7-10 minutes. Some questions concern hateful or discriminatory communication and may be uncomfortable for some participants. You may stop the survey at any time before submitting your responses.

This survey is anonymous.

The record of your survey responses does not contain any identifying information about you, unless a specific survey question explicitly asked for it.

If you used an identifying access code to access this survey, please rest assured that this code will not be stored together with your responses. It is managed in a separate database and will only be updated to indicate whether you did (or did not) complete this survey. There is no way of matching identification access codes with survey responses.

Purpose of data collection

This survey is conducted as part of a diploma thesis at Technische Universität Dresden. The purpose of the study is to examine players’ experiences and perceptions of communication in online games.

The information provided in the questionnaire will be used exclusively for scientific research and for the preparation of the diploma thesis.

Participation and legal basis

Participation in the survey is voluntary. You may stop participating at any time before submitting the questionnaire without giving a reason and without any negative consequences.

To the extent that personal data are processed, the processing is based on your voluntary consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.

Data collected and anonymity

The questionnaire collects information about experiences and perceptions related to online gaming as well as general gaming and demographic information.

No names, email addresses or other direct identifying information are collected as part of the questionnaire.

Survey responses are collected and analyzed anonymously. Results will only be reported in a form that does not allow individual participants to be identified.

Because the survey responses cannot be linked back to individual participants after submission, it is not possible to identify and subsequently delete an individual response after the questionnaire has been submitted.
