Aren’t we already making progress in our society?

Isn't it more of a symbolic gesture and does not bring about tangible changes?

  • Equality is increasingly being integrated into everyday life, making specific days like International Women's Day seem unnecessary.

  • A bouquet of flowers on one day of the year doesn’t change traditional behavior patterns anyway.

Should the focus still solely be on women?

  • Isn’t it about equality for all gender identities, including non-binary and queer individuals?

  • Wouldn’t it then be necessary to also honor other International Days to improve the visibility of contributions made by other marginalized groups?

However

Inequalities still persist:

  • Women in many countries still earn less than men for the same work or predominantly work in lower-paid industries or positions, as well as more frequently in part-time roles (Gender Pay Gap).

  • Women remain underrepresented in leadership positions in politics, industry, and science.

Raising Awareness:

  • International Women's Day serves as a platform to shed light on these issues.

  • It is a moment to celebrate progress, but also to emphasize where there is still a need for improvement.

Global Perspective:

  • In many parts of the world, women are still fighting for basic rights, such as education, protection from forced marriage, and the right to physical integrity.

We1 are asking ourselves what perspectives exist at our faculty regarding this topic. Please help us learn more about the current relevance of gender equality aspects in our faculty, so that we can develop targeted offerings and provide information based on this. This time, we will focus on the specific example of International Women's Day. We will analyze the responses anonymously and publish them in an appropriately prepared form within the faculty.
