Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics
The module covers the operational behavior of an aircraft in the various flight conditions, the target functions and variants of cruise flight, flight performance calculations as well as the associated basics of thrust diagrams and velocity polars and the properties of air, lift, drag and their generation as well as associated aerodynamic forces and moments and their equilibrium. The subjects in the field of aerodynamics and flight mechanics cover aerodynamic characteristics (polars), the influence of wind, airfoil geometry and characteristics, the establishment of moment equilibrium as well as load, trim ability and required aircraft control. In addition, the module covers the basics of thermodynamics and gas dynamics, in particular p-v and T-s diagrams of Brayton and Otto cycle, the flow through diffusers and nozzles, the structure and mode of operation as well as the operating behavior of the assemblies of gas turbines as well as material and runtime problems in gas turbine engines.
