This course is devoted to a study of quantum electrodynamics (QED) in strongbackground electromagnetic fields. Introduction to the effective action methodand S-matrix approach to problems with external fields is given. Nonlinearvacuum effects like vacuum birefringence, photon splitting, and Schwingerpair-production are discussed.
