Advanced Biological Physics SS24
Abstract:
These lectures will give a solid introduction into continuum mechanics, that is the physics of elastic solids and flowing fluids. We will highlight the very similar (and versatile) mathematical framework of elasticity theory and fluid mechanics. We will start with simple materials, and then showcase important models of complex materials, such as viscoelastic materials and liquid crystals, which play a key role in describing living matter.
This lecture is part of module 6 of the 'Physics of Life' Master course at CMCB, but suited and open also for interested students from Physics and Computer Science, e.g., from the Physics or CMS master courses.
