Remote access to computer pool
The computers in the CAE pool (running Linux) at ground floor of Weisbachbau are now available in winter semester 2020/21 for remote access per SSH (natively available in Linux, MobaXterm recommended for WinOS) and X2Go. SSH is recommended for command line operation while remote access via X2Go is recommended for graphical applications like Abaqus/CAE.
The computers can be accessed from within TUBAF network (VPN or SSH-Proxy) via DNS caepcXX.cae-pool.tu-freiberg.de or IP 139.20.56.XX . Therein, "XX" refers to a number: Machines caepc34, caepc36, caepc38, caepc40, caepc42 are running permanently. Machines caepc33, caepc35, caepc37, caepc39, caepc41 are currently also available, but may later be used in presence teaching. Further machines may be available during scheduled computer exercises. Access to these machines requires a particular Linux login (usually already set up for CMS students; a temporary login for computer exercises can be provided by the exercise instructors).
Please have a look at the CPU usage and switch to another machine, if one is heavily used. Usage of any of these machines requires a Linux login, which CMS students should have from the course Software Tools. Access per SSH and SFTP works the same way as with the HPC Cluster.
Among much other software, Abaqus (versions 6.12-3 and 2020 with commands "abq6123" and "abq2020", resp.) and the Intel Fortran compiler ("ifort") are installed at these machines.
