Einführung in die Fachsprache
This 2-semester advanced intermediate English B2/C1 (CEFR) course focuses upon introducing students to the necessary knowledge surrounding subject-related terminology involving the components and processes associated with their chosen field of study at TUBAF. Students will develop research skills to disseminate information in digital and printed formats related to their studies and to compare the study programs of partner universities with that of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Through this guided and independent study, students will attain a better understanding of their field of study and be able to differentiate their TUBAF program to those of other foreign universities. Learning about university entrance qualifications and requirements, campus life, and academic programs will introduce students not only to subject-related information, but also intercultural differences associated with studying in foreign countries. Exercises and assignments incorporate Bloom’s Taxonomy to develop and prove six cognitive processes (remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create) and four types of knowledge (factual, conceptual, procedural, and metacognitive). Oral discussions and written exercises will focus on communicative aspects, while also addressing sentence and paragraph structure, coherence, cohesion, and grammar. Through portfolios and an academic fair, students will have the opportunity to see tangible results of their progress.
